The Fall of 2006 marked the end of the Battle of the Whiteflies. It was a battle I ultimately lost regarding the Confederate Rose hedge. In spite of the damage done, the Confederate Roses gifted me with some beautiful flowers. It is so hard to believe how such big plants can grow from such tiny seeds. The plants are now 3 years old and this Spring will be a full blown hedge. I plan to put a dressing of worm castings down when they start emerging again. According to the experts, the worm castings change the chemistry of the plant making it unpalatable to whiteflies. I certainly hope it works!

I am also very happy to report that the Horrible Holly Hedge is no more. My neighbors from across the street surprised me one day by taking it out while I was at work. I have been busy making a bed for Brugmansia and Ginger.

The Blue Picotee X Mini-Bar Rose morning glory cross gave me some beautiful flowers for the F1 generation.

I am really looking forward to the F2 generation. About a month ago, I started 6 seeds. From what I understand, there should be some really wild variation! Two of the plants already have buds on them.

Early this fall I bought a new camera and renewed my interest in macro photography. The quality and detail of the pictures from this camera are astonishing. I’m still learning after 4 months, how to use all the features.

The macro photography was not confined to plants!

The greenhouse is stuffed full and doing beautifully and will be stuffed even fuller in the next few weeks as I start my seeds for Spring.

I am planning on making some major additions this year. Not only will I have the Brugmansia - Ginger bed, I am going to get started on building the English/Charleston side. Most of the seeds I start this year will be for that.
