2008 was a transitional year. I made a lot of major changes to the garden after seeing what worked and what didn’t, and a lot of the changes were made to accommodate my abilities since I am the one taking care of it. As I get older, I’m realizing I cannot do as much as I used to do.

Therefore 2008 was spent moving plants, getting rid of plants and trading like mad for what I had in mind.  Craig’s List came to my rescue. It enabled me to get a lot of physically hard work done that I would have never been able to do.

One of the first things I did was get rid of the canna bed. First, I was tired of fighting Leaf Rollers and second, it was hopelessly filled with weeds and Bermuda Grass. I only kept the two unusual ones I had, Bengal Tiger and Chocolate Cherry. I advertised my canna bed on Craig’s List as free to anyone who was willing to dig it up and take it all. I was astonished to have over 15 replies on the ad within 30 minutes after posting and the canna bed was totally gone 6 hours after I first listed it on Crag’s List.  The rest of the Summer was cleaning out the bed and incorporating new soil.

The next on the list was the Brugmansia. I had been working on making a Brugmanisa Room when I first moved here and after a few years I realized they had been planted too close. Enter Craig’s List again. After taking cuttings of everything and rooting them, I advertised the Brugs on Craig’s list and they were all gone the next day.

I then moved my Butterfly Ginger to a shadier place since it was struggling in full sun. The problem was the ground was so hard, it was difficult to keep it watered as the water would just roll down hill and it always looked parched. Craig’s List again. This time I offered in payment, some rare and unusual plants.

I usually grow Datura in two boxes in the front of my house. This year I grew some Orbit Geraniums, The Ice Series from seed. They were really pretty and kept blooming up until the first frost.
